Please Note
  • In accordance with 503 KAR 3:020, absences from training shall only be excused for legitimate reasons including sickness, court appearances, and emergencies. Written notice shall be given prior to the absence, or if an unexpected absence, on the first day upon returning. All absences from training shall be approved by the section supervisor or branch manager. Additional attendance requirements may be identified in specific courses.
  • In accordance with 503 KAR 3:030 all “eligible category” agencies and officers are provided training at no cost unless otherwise exempted under this regulation. All other agencies will be charged at the rate identified within Section 7 of this regulation.

Registration Restrictions
  • Each agency is responsible for ensuring all registration requirements are met when enrolling personnel in any DOCJT course. For KLEFPF fund eligibility and annual in-service credit purposes, agencies must comply with 503 KAR 5:090, Section 3(6), which provides:
  • “(6)(a) Except for courses as authorized in paragraph (b) of this subsection, a police officer shall not, for fund eligibility purposes, take the same in service training course that he has successfully completed in a previous year for fund eligibility purposes unless at least three (3) years have passed since the earlier course was completed.”
  • If an officer repeats the same in service training course within three (3) years of the prior completion date, the repeated course will not count toward the required forty (40) hours of annual in service training for KLEFPF fund eligibility purposes for that training cycle.
  • Exception: 503 KAR 5:090, Section 3(6)(b) allows an officer to repeat certain diminishable skills training previously completed in the prior year, up to a maximum of sixteen (16) hours, in the specific training areas listed in the regulation.
  • DOCJT staff do not prescreen registrations for repeat course eligibility. The registering agency is responsible for confirming compliance before enrolling personnel.
